Its that time of year when we all make resolutions. Ours? To bring more live music to Waldo County in 2016! We’re back. The Free Range Music Festival is relaunching as the Free Range Music Series, beginning with Blood Warrior and Asa Irons in a few short weeks.
What can you expect from the Free Range Music Series this year? Who knows? Similar to the festival, we’ll be presenting a wide range of genres and musicians from both near and far. One show might be folk, the next might be wild electro pop. Our goal is to keep you guessing and exploring.
So join us on Saturday, January 23 at Waterfall Arts in Belfast to celebrate a new year, a new name, and the exceptional music of Blood Warrior and Asa Irons.

BLOOD WARRIOR
Blood Warrior makes music that exposes the intricacies of melancholy, unravelling its individual strands of sadness, redemption, and contemplation. The New England based duo turns heartbreak into something much more elusive and dream-like, enriching it with elements of otherworldly fantasy while retaining its raw emotional impact. Their idiosyncratic folk songs reflect this rawness, and they use guitars (at times purposefully detuned), harmonium, keyboards and sparse percussion to create music that is deceptively minimal.
Blood Warrior is Greg Jamie and Joey Weiss, musicians who have been playing music together since high school, and whose musical bond was solidified in those formative years. Both Jamie and Weiss have been integral parts of the New England folk underground for some time. Greg’s venue The Oak & The Ax in Biddeford, Maine was a gathering place for forward-looking musicians in the area.. He is also the frontman of O’Death. Joey Weiss also plays in Super Monster and Lazy River.

ASA IRONS
Asa Irons, of Witch and acclaimed folk outfit Feathers, creates lush, inspired dreamscapes with a unique array of instruments (including, at times, huge metal saw blades).
“After spending years in New Hampshire and often Nova Scotia, I began writing songs about my Northeastern window through which I view the world. Most of the pieces represent strong fundamentals in my life such as living without comfort resources like electricity and running water, the building trends of carpentry and masonry with which I make my living, and the slow paced rural life in which I grew up. The land of Northeastern North America is very important to me and compelled me to describe it in the form of music.” – Asa Irons
"Asa Irons‘ voice says it all, a prime example of what the word “music” means in Hindi: that which breaks the silence." - Devendra Banhart
