Maine Farmland Trust and the Free Range Music Series will present an evening of music with William Joseph Jiordan and Henry Finch at the Unity Food Hub to kick-off Veggies For All’s 9th year of hunger relief!

Veggies For All, a project of Maine Farmland Trust, is a food bank farm that works to relieve hunger by growing vegetables for those in need, while collaborating with partners to distribute and increase access to quality and nutritious food.

Each year VFA grows tons of vibrant, pesticide-free produce that is made available to roughly 1500 of our most food insecure neighbors -at no cost- through a network of 9 food pantries serving 25 towns. Founded by beginning farmers in 2007, they have grown and distributed 130,000 pounds of vegetables and engaged hundreds of volunteers in thousands of hours of community-based hunger relief.

Maine Farmland Trust works to protect farmland, and to keep farming in Maine viable and vital.

Located at 69 School Street in Unity, the Unity Food Hub aggregates, markets, and distributes Maine foods from family farms & small food businesses.

WILLIAM JOSEPH JIORDAN (Brooksville, ME)

William Joseph Jiordan is the musical moniker for mid-coast Maine based musician/vegetable farmer William Giordano. His songs weave praise and heartbreak - for the land, for love lost and gained, for the hopeful unending generosity of humanity - into a New England mytho/mystic narrative. His stories don’t distinguish their subjects. Is it a person, or is it a prairie fire? A forest or a friend? Ballads are woven together with upbeat orchestral compositions in an attempt to speak well for quiet roars of the heart, and the too-often-ever-waiting-to-be-born majesty of the human spirit.

He’s currently performing an original catalog with poetic vocal arrangements with a 5-piece band. Their acoustic guitar and vocal harmony-led sound invokes feeling of something between Fiest and the Barr Brothers, with a rhythm section that might be like a marriage of the strait-forward folk rock style of Neil Young with the white-tight-funk nuance of Vulfpeck.

Giordano has spent the last decade in rural Maine, working with both rural arts and Maine’s farms and food producers. He worked for with Tim Semler and Lydia Moffett to develop their the old world bakery Tinder Hearth as a wood-fired bread mecca and hub of local culture. He played guitar as a member of the Blue Hill-based dance band the Living Daylight and co-founded the folk ensemble O Deer! with Bridge Isabella Semler. He was a musical collaborator with the mythology and nature theater group the Terra Diddle Collective and Musical Director of LEAP Dance Theater with dancer, transformational theater and holistic arts-therapy pioneer Kristi Williamson.
