THE WHAT CHEER? BRIGADE - A FREE CONCERT FOR ALL
Celebrating Waterfall Arts' 10 years in Belfast
at Waterfall Arts
Sunday, August 28
3:30 PM
FREE!
It’s been TEN years since Waterfall Arts opened its doors in Belfast in the former Governor Anderson Elementary School building. Exhibitions! Classes! Workshops! Performances! Events! Public Art Projects! Collaborations! It’s been a dizzying whirlwind of creative energy. What do friends do when friends have big birthdays? They throw big parties! The Free Range Music Series is teaming up with Waterfall Arts to celebrate on August 28th with a FREE outdoor concert for all ages featuring the What Cheer? Brigade!
The WHAT CHEER BRIGADE is an award winning, 20 piece original brass band from Providence, RI. With Bollywood, Balkan, New Orleans, Samba, and Hip‐Hop influences played with the intensity of metal, the band has shared the stage with artists like Blondie, Man Man, Okkervil River, and Wolf Parade and has performed at many festivals around the world offering mobile moments of intense revelry. “Undimmable energy…an explosion of good cheer.”-The New York Times
What Cheer last performed in Belfast in 2012 to a packed audience at the Free Range Music Festival that infamously took to the streets for a impromptu dance party of epic proportions. In other words, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Waterfall Arts’ equally epic first decade in Belfast.
The event will also feature live screen printing of commemorative 10 year anniversary designs by Fast Food Prints. Fast Food Prints was started in 2011 when Shawn Brewer was attending Maine College of Art as a printmaking major. Shawn has gone on to pursue expansive and engaging modes of participation and alternative art experiences in public art through the collaborative printmaking event.
Additional activities will include an appearance by Belfast’s own Random Beats Street Band, delicious eats from Sweet Henry's and Firefly Farm, and more!
The concert will take place outdoors. If there is rain, an alternative venue will be announced.
